Crunchy Top Fruits Pie Recipe

You will need.....       2 lb. cooking apples

                               1/2 lb. packet pitted prunes

                               juice of 1 lemon

                               3 oz. castor sugar

                               4 oz. plain flour

Preparation Time      pinch salt

20 minutes                 2 oz. butter, cut into small pieces

                               1 oz. brown sugar

Cooking Time            pinch cinnamon

30 minutes                

                           

Oven setting           

400ºF; Gas Mark 6      

                            

Peel, core and slice the apples, put into a pan with the prunes, lemon juice and castor sugar. Heat gently for about 20 minutes until apples begin to soften. Put fruit into an oven-proof dish.

 

Sift flour and salt, add butter and rub in until the mixture resembles fie breadcrumbs. Add brown sugar, adn cinnamon, mixing well. Sprinkle the mixture over apples.

 

Bake in centre of oven for 10 minutes. Serve hot or cold decorated with fresh apple slices. Serves 4.

 

Quick Tip

 

To save time, use canned apple filling (omitting the castor sugar) and packet crumble mix.
