Apple Scone Recipe

You will need.....       1 medium cooking apple                               

                               8 oz. self-raising flour

                               1/2 teaspoon salt

                               1 level teaspoon baking powder

                               2 oz. butter

Preparation Time      2 oz. castor sugar

15 minutes                scant 1/4 pint milk

                               For the glaze: 

Cooking Time            little milk

20-25 minutes            1 oz. demerara sugar

 

Oven setting            

400ºF; Gas Mark 6      

 

Peel, core and finely chop apple. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Rub in butter, then add castor sugar and chopped apple. Mix to a soft, but not sticky dough with milk.

 

Roll out on a floured table a 1/4-inch thick, 8-inches round. Mark into 8 wedges. Place on a greased baking sheet, brush top with milk and sprinkle with demerara sugar. Bake in a moderately hot oven for 20-25 minutes.

 

Serve warm with butter.

 

Quick Tip

 

For a change, roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into 10-12 rounds with a 2-inch plain cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet and brush tops with milk. Bake in a moderately hot oven for 15-20 minutes.
